Mathieu Tarlo
Bass
After completing a DEC in jazz trombone at the Cégep de Sherbrooke, Mathieu Tarlo continued studies in upright bass at Université de Sherbrooke, where he graduated with many honours and grants. He completed a B.A. in jazz interpretation as well as courses in instrumental pedagogy.
In addition to teaching for the last 15 years in elementary, high school and university, Mathieu has also maintained an active performing career. He has been a part of numerous jazz projects (Contracteurs Généreux, Trio Guillaume Gilbert, Soul Call, Zikak trio); pop and rock projects (Galarno, Limbo, The Singles); and Salsa/Latin projects (Habana Café, Grupo Trovando, Brazooke, Julian Gutierrez Quintet).
Mathieu has been a side man for numerous artists (Sylvain Daigneault, François Cousineau, Francis Rivard, Mike Goudreau, Pierre Blais, and others), and has performed with many nationally renowned artists including Ralph Bowen (Criss Cross, Verve, Blue Note), Jon Damian (Burklee School of Music), Steve Groves (7th Son Records), and Brad Turner (Maximum Jazz). Although mainly focused on jazz, Mathieu is experienced in a wide variety of styles both on stage and in the teaching and recording studio (Claire Pelletier, Bori, François Cousineau).
Mathieu has been a proud part of the BU singers band since 2015.
